ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is more than just a buzzword, it’s a condition that affects both children and adults in unique and challenging ways. At Iridescent Counseling, located in Tempe, AZ, we specialize in providing comprehensive ADHD support through in-person and online services. Whether you’re seeking a screening, assessment, or therapy, our team is here to guide you through every step of understanding and managing ADHD.

What is ADHD and How Does it Impact Lives?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that can affect focus, impulse control, and organization. For children, this might look like difficulty sitting still in class or struggling to complete homework. For adults, it can manifest as chronic procrastination, forgetfulness, or feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks. While ADHD is often misunderstood as simply being “distracted,” it’s a complex condition that requires proper evaluation and support. At Iridescent Counseling, we offer thorough ADHD screenings and assessments to help identify the condition in both children and adults. Our evaluations are designed to provide clarity, so you can better understand how ADHD impacts your life and what steps to take next.

The Importance of Screening and Assessment

Screening and assessment are critical first steps in addressing ADHD. Think of it as shining a light on the challenges you or your child may be facing. A proper evaluation doesn’t just confirm whether ADHD or ADD is present, it also helps uncover strengths and areas for growth. This understanding allows us to create a personalized therapy plan tailored to your unique needs.

Assessment with use of QbCheck

QbCheck is an online ADHD test that objectively measures the three core symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); activity, inattention and impulsivity. Together with other information, such as rating scales and a clinical interview, QbCheck will help your healthcare provider to assess you for ADHD. After test completion, a test result is compared with individuals of the same age and gender, who have ADHD and those who do not. QbCheck cannot identify ADHD by itself, but the comparison to the age and gender matched groups will inform your healthcare provider about the likelihood of ADHD.

How is QbCheck Performed

The test is performed on a computer with a built-in web camera. During the test, a number of symbols are shown on the computer screen. The task is to push the space bar when a certain symbol appears on the screen. Meanwhile, a web camera uses facial recognition technology to track your movements during the test.  The test takes 15 - 20 minutes to complete (depending on your age) and is not dependent on your language, reading or mathematical skills.  Once you have completed your test, the result will be interpreted by your healthcare provider, who will discuss them together with other information during your next appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I know if I have ADHD after the test?

  • QbCheck should not be used in isolation and does not provide a diagnosis. Instead, the results need to be interpreted carefully as part of a comprehensive assessment to diagnose ADHD.

Will I be recorded during the test?

  • The web camera does not record images but only tracks movements. In addition, test results are anonymized and processed according to local data protection regulations.
